An Introduction to the IIB

The Institute for Independent Business (IIB) is a not-for-profit research, training and accreditation organization.

For many years large consulting firms have served primarily Fortune 500 companies and some mid market companies.  Small to midsized firms were not able to afford the kind of help available to large companies.   In the 1990's the Institute for Independent Business (IIB) in the UK found that small to midsized firms (SME's) were underserved, yet they were the ones that created most of the job growth in their economy.  They also discovered that instead of traditional project consulting the SME needed more mentoring and facilitation.   Due to this knowledge and experience gap, the IIB set about to teach executives leaving large firms how to come alongside the business owners and CEO's of smaller firms and provide practical, hands-on advice.  At present there are more than 6000 IIB Associates around the world that have been through this accreditation process.  All associates have been Sr. executives with many having been CEO's.  This rich pool of experience is available in most countries around the world.  In the US there are more than 2000 such accredited associates.
